Bangtan Boys & The K-Pop Fandom – Gaining Global Ground

If you haven’t heard of the Bangtan Boys, well, now you have.  A big and powerful movement in the music industry- known as K-Pop- has gained a great deal of momentum in the past several years, far beyond the shores of Korea, and the Bangtan Boys have, at a minimum, helped fuel the flames. The Bangtan Boys (a.k.a. BTS) got their start in 2013 with their hit song, “No More Dream”. This dreamy South Korean boy band with a swarm of fans and followers,  doesn’t yield a lot of question as to why they’re as popular as they are.

The entertainment group Big Hit set out on their hunt for fresh faces and talent in 2010 and ‘11 in South Korea, searching for the right match of harmonies and personalities to form the agency’s latest singing group. With luck, they managed to find seven young boys – some of which were still just in middle school – to join the band. Jungkook, Jin, Suga, Rap Monster, V, Jimin, and J-Hope all joined the band, and therein the now famous septet was formed.

By 2014 the “boys” already had a massive following, even performing to audiences of 10,000+ and touring in Russia and other parts of Asia. Immediately after coming out to the public as Big Hit’s most recent talent, they announced their fan-base name: A.R.M.Y. – the acronym standing for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth.

Most recently in 2015 , the American digital cable channel Fuse rated the band’s album of the year The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1, as “one of the 27 best albums of the year so far”.  To date, they have more than half a dozen awards under their belt, including several “New Artist of the Year” awards.
