Fanpage: Fandoms Are on the Rise

Why Fanpage?

Whether we know it or not, we are probably all a part of a Fandom.  Whether we’re a Swifty, PotterHead, Trekkie, Die Hard Cowboys Fan, or so loyal to our alma-mater that we bleed our school colors. And, why is that?  Some say being a fan gives a person a sense of belonging and acceptance, the lure of a social bond with others. Other’s say that it provides a form of escape.   While this may ring true for some, for us, its just plain fun.

Interestingly enough, the term ‘Fandom‘ originated somewhere between 1897 and 1902, to define the subculture following of the Sherlock Holmes novels.  It’s interesting because before 5 years ago, you had probably never heard the word before.  But as high speed internet (along with on demand content and social networks) became the norm, new fandoms blossomed, and existing ones grew, until the term itself re-entered the mainstream to define the growing phenomenon.  Today the term is not only common, but has become a part of pop culture, from the MTV Fandom Awards to ‘Fandom Fridays‘ on the NFL Network.  Do a google search for the term, and you’ll turn up over 41 million results.  And according to Eventbrite, Fan Conventions have been growing by 25% year over year since 2007, in both attendance and revenue.  The fact is, Fandoms of all kinds are on the rise, and becoming more niche than ever.  Fans are now looking for the best content, new ways to express their fandom, connect with each other, and have fun.

Intrigued by the growing trend, we launched an online survey and had fans from over 50 countries chime in.  The results blew us away, and thus resulted in Fanpage.  A mobile app for iPhone and Android – a social experience that feels like you’re playing a game.   Where fans can create and share Fanpages dedicated to whatever it is they’re a fan of.  Where they can connect with other fans and compete to become the biggest fan on the Fanpage Leaderboards, earning chances to win once-in-a-lifetime fan experiences.

So, if you’re ready to express your Fandom, have fun, and possibly end up backstage, on the 50, or red carpet, then join Fans from over 70 countries who have already signed up for the Fanpage beta.  Oh, and did we mention that one of our lucky beta users is guaranteed to win the Fan Experience of their dreams?  Want it to be you?  Then download the app, share it with your friends, and we’ll see you on Fanpage!
